Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has announced that the 2015-16 season will be raced exclusively with Mobility scooters.

'It seemed the next logical step. Last year our cars were hybrid powered units. For the next season we are going full electric.'

Doubts have been raised as to the viability of using mobility scooters for the worlds premier racing series. But Mr. Ecclestone shot down any doubts.

'Have you ever been in a busy shopping centre at the weekend? There are pensioners doing 190mph down the bubble bath aisle of Boots. And they can turn on a sixpence'.

Mr. Ecclestone, 84, was asked if he himself had such a scooter. 'I'm not that old you know. Let me introduce you to my new young lady friend Marie who is older than you might think. She's a foetus.'
