The Conservative party have promised to enshrine their promise to not raise taxes into law if it is elected on May 7th.
We thought this was an odd move by the party.
If you are elected, who is going to force you to raise taxes? Nobody.
There is no need for a law. Just don't raise them.
We asked Tory party chairman Grant Shapps, back from his holiday hiding in a cupboard until everyone forgets the Wikipedia editting thing, what this new law meant.
'Look, it's an insurance policy.' he said.
'The British people know, in their hearts, we are lying bastards. We can't help ourselves. And we love taxing poor people.'
'If we pass a law straight away, it removes temptation.'
We raised the point that the law could just as easily be repealed.
'Oh yeah, good point.' said Shapps.
'Oh ok then. It's just an outright lie to get votes.'
'We're going to tax the shit out of you.'
