Trevor Noah, contributor to The Tonight Show and mooted replacement for Jon Stewart has said he is permitted to make antisemitic jokes.

'You see I am in a special group.' he said.

'I am an educated, cultured, mixed-race black South African. I am one of the coolest demographics in existence and one of the most prejudiced against in history.'

He continued 'So, you know, I'm exempt from the usual constraints regarding taste and decency. Because to accuse me of antisemitism is racist, xenophobic and backward thinking.'

A spokesman for Comedy Central said 'It is true we are falling over ourselves to get someone like Noah to host our show as it makes us look progressive rather than a bunch of rich white guys.'

'But we don't want to start down the Clarkson path. Get someone whose ego is so big it can't be contained.'

'So in this case, we are going to jump ship from Noah's ark before it's sailed.'
