An assault rifle used by the IRA during the Troubles to murder someone has been found in the Imperial War Museum it has emerged.

Investigators had been at a loss, assuming the weapon had been destroyed.

'Someone had a great idea' said lead investigator, PSNI Inspector Brian McDonnel.

'They said that the Imperial War Museum had an enormous cache of weapons on display used during the troubles and maybe we should look there.'

'Who knew?'

The PSNI have since hired a consultant whose job it is to draw attention to elements in cases that may have been overlooked.

So far he has pointed investigators in the direction of banks for large currency robberies, jewellers for diamond theft and located each of the investigators arses and elbows for them.
