The people of the North must have more realistic expectations of what the Northern Powerhouse will consist of the Government announced today.
Speaking from outside a small urban cotrage that has recently had solar panels installed, Teresa May said 'Our plans have had to shift.'
'Before the election the Northern Powerhouse was our top priority. It was the change of an era. It would have created a London of the North.'
'Infrastructure, jobs, investment, housing, devolved government. You name it, we wanted it. It is a good policy and I don't mind saying it played out quite well in the press.'
So, we asked, what has changed since the election that has lead to a diverting of funding away from the Northern Powerhouse to even more infrastructure projects in the south?
'We won' said Ms. May.
