As Tesco's financial woes continue, chief executive, Sir Larry Hagperson, is unrepentant in their store closing scheme.

'I hate poxy little local shops with their local jams and horrific local newspapers with stories about pensioners shitting themselves. I see it as my duty to buy them all with the promise of a shiny new Tesco, then just not build it and laugh.'

Mrs. Vera Saddleworth, 85 of Bolton, used to rely on her local shop as a way to be active in her community and to meet people.

'I used to go and get my daily newspaper and have a good chat with the nice man behind the counter' said Mrs. Saddleworth. 'Now I can't get a newspaper and have to rely on porn mags in hedges for reading material. And you don't get many of them anymore with the internet.'
